Job Description

A+ Arts Academy, a K–8 public charter school located at 1395 Fair Avenue in Columbus, Ohio, is conducting a national search for a visionary and experienced Principal to lead our school through an exciting period of renewal and transformation. We are returning to our founding identity as a school rooted in the arts, and we are seeking a proven educational leader who is ready to build something extraordinary.

This search is being conducted by Adkins & Company, a leading charter school management and consulting firm. The successful candidate will report directly to the Board of Directors and will serve as the school’s chief educational and administrative officer.

The Opportunity

A+ Arts Academy is at a pivotal moment. With renewed board commitment, strong community partnerships, and a clear mission to re-center arts integration at the heart of our K–8 program, we are building a school that Columbus families and students can be proud of. We need a Principal who is not merely a manager, but a transformational leader — someone who can inspire a team, restore culture, elevate academic outcomes, and model what excellence looks like every single day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the educational leader and chief administrator of the school, accountable directly to the Board of Directors.
  • Establish and communicate a clear vision for academic excellence and arts integration, cultivating a culture of high expectations, pride, and achievement.
  • Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate a high-performing instructional team; provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and meaningful support to all staff.
  • Oversee curriculum development, instructional programming, master scheduling, and extracurricular activities to ensure rigorous, sequential student learning experiences.
  • Manage all operational aspects of the school in compliance with state, federal, and charter authorizer requirements; ensure all policies are enforced equitably and transparently.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with students, families, board members, and community stakeholders through consistent, open communication.
  • Lead weekly leadership team meetings and foster a collaborative, accountable administrative culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities, including appropriate testing and program implementation.
  • Maintain the health, safety, and welfare of all students, staff, and visitors; oversee all building operations and emergency procedures.
  • Achieve and maintain a school designation of Effective or higher; own and drive the school improvement plan.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a closely related field required; additional curriculum leadership coursework preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of school administrative or leadership experience (Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated success leading school culture, climate, or academic turnaround strongly preferred.
  • Experience in charter school environments, arts integration, or urban education is a significant advantage.
  • Ohio principal licensure required or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to lead, inspire, and hold teams accountable.
